The beginner’s guide to clean beauty

Facts :

  1. The Average Woman Puts 515 Synthetic Chemicals On Her Body Every Day Without Knowing
  2. 26 seconds is all it takes for the ingredients in your personal care products To enter your bloodstream
  3. These chemicals  can cause skin damage, breast cancer, thyroid disruption, hormone disruption, birth defects, infertility, hormone disruption, kidney and liver disease.

Here is a golden rule that simplified my life : If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.

Switching to clean beauty:

Obviously, the process is a little bit complicated because you don’t know where to start,
what stuff you should buy and what products you should stay away from.
This is a brief guide that would make switching to clean beauty easy.
1-Understand the terms related to green beauty :

Organic : The first thing to keep in mind is that organic is not the synonym
of natural. And organic doesn’t always mean that the ingredients are 100% organic.
I have checked the USDA organic skin care website for you and guess what !
Organic products are classified into 3 categories :
  • 100% organic : Must contain only organically produced ingredients
  • Organic : Must contain minimum 95% organically produced ingredients
  • Made with organic ingredients : Contain at least 70 percent organic ingredients .
You can learn more by checking the USDA website .
  • Natural : Natural products don’t have to meet any regulations.
They contain plant-based ingredients such as shea butter oils, aloe vera…
  • Cruelty free: Cruelty free doesn’t mean that the product is natural or organic.
It simply means that the product wasn’t tested on animals. If you want to check whether a product was tested on animals or not
go the Leaping Bunny's website.
  • Vegan: the product is not made with any animal derived ingredients
like beeswax, lanolin, collagen, albumen, cholesterol, gelatin, carmine, honey …

2-Let’s move to the most exciting task : scanning the ingredients to see if
the products has any toxics.
Here is the list of ingredients you have to avoid :
● Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate ● Petrochemicals - Propylene Glycol, Paraffin, Mineral Oil,
Butylene Glycol, Isopropyl Alcohol and Petrolatum.
● Fragrance/Parfum
DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (momoethnanolamine), and TEA (triethanolamine)
● Parabens - Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, and Ethylparaben
